How to Avoid Stress at an Airport

One of the biggest nightmares is to have to catch a plane and to be stressed about it. There are too many things that can go wrong when you are at an airport. Missing a flight is never fun: it would not only make you miss out on something important (depending on where you are headed), but also you will have to spend too much money if you want to catch the next plane

So what can you do to avoid any problems or stress?

First of all, always arrive early at the airport. To be honest, it is better to spend an extra forty minutes browsing the duty free shops or reading a magazine or maybe having a snack at the airport bar (even though they are very overpriced!). If you are in a rush, you might actually get more nervous and forget something important. You will get even more stressed at queues. Arrive two hours early, so that you have enough time to check in and get through security. Keep in mind traffic, too!

Also, it is nice to bring something fun to do in your carry on. Whether it is a book, a laptop, a diary or all of the above, it is better to have something to do while waiting around. Prepare a bucket list for your trip, catch up on your correspondence or simply do some work. Keeping your mind off travelling and being productive will make you feel a lot better at the airport!

Another thing to keep in mind is that travelling in the middle of the day is least stressful. Flights during the night or too early in the morning can turn your whole regime around and will just add to the stress of travelling. If you need to leave in the middle of the day, you will be able to predict traffic easier.

Do not schedule anything specific for when the day you are travelling. If you know you have to do something as soon as you arrive, you will be in a hurry and anxious. Leave the day only for travelling and enjoy it!

You can also take advantage of what the airport is offering. Enjoying a meal you have not before or buying something cute from one of the shops can make you feel happier. Simply set some money aside for “airport expenses”: that way you will be prepared for the overpriced airport goods!

Last but not least, you can exercise before going to the airport. Exercise can increase endorphin in your organism and make you feel better as a whole. Besides, you will be more tired, so may actually take a nap in the plane. A workout will wake you up and get you ready for the long travel that awaits!
