How to Make Your Tan Last Longer

Can you imagine yourself lying on the beach or next to the pool, listening to either the calming sound of the waves or the silence of your vacation, holding a cocktail in one hand and wearing a beautiful hat to hide your face from the sun? Well, we can, for sure. Summer is here and so is the usual tanning routine. We all aim at an even bronze tan, but the truth is it is quite hard to achieve. First of all, you can burn, so you need to protect your skin. However, the higher the SPF that you are using, the harder and slower it would be for you to achieve a chocolate hue of your skin. You need to be consistent and spend a few hours under the sun rays (but again, with the right UV protection for skin and hair!), but still avoid getting sick because of the heat. It is absolutely compulsory to drink lots of water while you are on vacation and to hide under the shade once in a while, especially between 12 pm and 4 pm. The sun is strongest then, so it is not really advisable to stay beneath it.

  • Your body is probably dehydrated the majority of the time during the summer and hot baths are not really the best choice for this season. Hot water will lead to a faster peeling of your skin. It is a lot better to stick to cool showers if you want to lock-down your chocolate tan. Go for a refreshing moisturizing shower gel to make the whole thing even more effective.
  • The importance of careful skin care is huge when it comes to prolonging your tan. First of all, you need to moisturize your body on a daily basis with a nice, appropriate lotion, body butter or oil. Skin tends to dry out in the summer, especially after tanning, so you need to take extra good care of it. Coconut oil is also a good idea. The other key body care step is to exfoliate regularly, probably once a week. You can purchase a nice scrub with an exotic smell or choose one of the awesome DIY recipes. Exfoliating under the shower takes about a minute, but it is very important, as it removes dull, parched skin, dead skin cells and prepares your body for any self-tanning that is about to come its way.
  • You might know that UV rays can be very damaging to your skin, especially your face, but still want to enjoy a pretty, bronze face. If you do not want to regret tanning in a decade, you can achieve a sun-kissed complexion with a store-bought gradual tan for your face. They are subtle and can help you achieve a great look, without drying out your skin like crazy and still wearing that SPF 50. The foods that contain these beta-carotenes are sweet potatoes, apricots, mangoes and carrots. The good news is that all of these foods are very healthy and will make your eating regime in the summer even better! Remember to also drink lots of water as that will keep your skin hydrated and healthy.
  • Last but not least, you can always turn to optical illusions with the help of your wardrobe. If you wear white, your tan will be strongly accentuated and you will look darker. The good news is that white is very fashionable this year, so rock these cotton shirts, mini dresses and halter neck tops as much as you want!
