You will be surprised to find out that what you eat has a greater impact on your appearance than just adding a few extra kilograms to your weight when you have been binge-eating junk food. Your daily meal choices can actually contribute to the condition of your hair, your skin and your overall health. If you can balance the substances in your diet and you are careful about what you eat, you will soon notice the difference. And after that others will notice it too: that is when your effort to pay attention to your diet plan will truly pay off and you will feel incredibly proud.

Your skin in particular can benefit a lot from the food you eat. It is not a healthy way of thinking when you believe that makeup can solve any problems you have. After all, it is summer now and it is better for you to limit the amount of makeup you use on a daily basis! On the contrary, you should start taking good care of your skin and work with what you’ve got: it is a lot better to be comfortable with your natural appearance than having to constantly hide behind foundation, bronzer and concealer. Certain foods and liquids have proven to be a great idea if you want to be part of the “glowing skin” team! Take a look at these food groups according to their function and contributions to the appearance of your face and build a meal plan around that.

  • The Hydration Group: You have probably noticed how much information about skin problems revolve around hydration. Moisturizing your skin is the most basic, but essential thing you can do for it. First of all, hydrated skin is more glowing. It suffers from hyper-pigmentation less and dry patches do not ruin your makeup look. Finally, moisturizing can slow down the aging process. That is why not only should you invest in some good skincare products, but also keep your skin hydrated from within. Two litres of water per day are an absolute must! Limit alcohol and coffee as they dehydrate your organism. The foods you should go for are cucumbers, strawberries, watermelon, pineapple, and dark leafy greens. Are you ready for a great salad? Or a fruit snack?
  • The Fat Group: We know the title sounds extremely funny, but you should not underestimate the power of fatty acids. They contribute to skin cells’ ability to maintain moisture and protect it from the damaging environmental factors around you. The human body cannot produce Omega-6 and Omega-3 fatty acids, so it needs to get them from somewhere else, meaning that you need to incorporate them in your diet. Do not be scared of the word “fatty”: these are substances that are actually healthy for you! Not to mention that your skin’s natural glow will change considerably if you incorporate healthy oils into your diet a little bit more. So what should you buy and put in your fridge? Fatty fish (salmon, for instance), avocados (yummy!), olive, hempseed, grapeseed or flaxseed oil for cooking or dressings, and occasional snacking on lax seeds, chia seeds or walnuts added to cereals, oatmeals or smoothies are what you need!
  • The Powerful Antioxidants: Foods that are high in antioxidants are great because they can protect your skin from the dirty air or the strong UV rays and prevent any inflammation or disruption of cellular renewal due to environmental factors. Therefore, these foods (which will benefit your whole organism, not only your skin!) will protect skin from free radicals that can have a negative impact on the skin’s collagen and elastin. The foods you need to start eating now are citrus fruits (lemons, oranges, and grapefruits), blackberries and raspberries. As a whole, foods rich in vitamin C are what you need!
